In 1995, Heart 'n Soul created the Beautiful
Octopus Club, the original club run by artists with learning
disabilities.
| The club defined an artistic and cultural
movement, and has gone from strength to strength over the past eight
years. The Beautiful Octopus Club,
together with its young-people friendly version, the Squidz
Club, now reaches thousands of clubbers every year. |
Heart 'n Soul has inspired, trained
and established a number of similar clubs all around Britain and has
begun work to define and develop this emerging club network.
Joining the Dots is a four-year project.
Heart 'n Soul will:
create a Tool Kit to support new and
developing clubs |
map out the national network of learning
disability arts-led Clubs, based on the Beautiful
Octopus Club model |
offer opportunities to artists with
learning disabilities to exchange skills, ideas and experience |
support more artists with learning disabilities
to
work professionally |
create a specialist symbols system to
support
shared communication |
use our art, plus our experience and
skills to
lead the way |
