How did you hear about Heart n Soul
and when did you join?
I started getting involved about four years ago. I live locally and I also know Hannah Mason and Zoe Gilmour who both worked with Heart n Soul and they got me interested.
2011 has been a busy year at Heart n Soul,
what's been your highlight?
I really liked working on The Lord Mayor's Show. I designed and made all the costumes for the parade. It was good fun designing the costumes and I had a lot of creative freedom to make something really exciting.
Where do you get the inspiration for your costumes?
I'm inspired by the individual personalities of the artists that I work with. I work with the artists and talk to them about what they would like to wear. I want to make people look interesting and cool and to be part of contemporary pop culture. A lot of my ideas are inspired by the world of fashion from designers like Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Viktor and Rolf.
How did you get interested in design?
I studied fashion and textiles at college, but before that I was very interested in drama and acting. After college I worked for different fashion designers and as a stylist for photoshoots. I realised that there's a lot more career options than just being a fashion designer. I've worked in the wardrobe department in theatres and on TV and film projects. I also worked Fred Butler and Andy Hillman who create sets for photoshoots.
What are you looking forward to in 2012 at Heart n Soul?
I've been working with Dean on the Dean Rodney Singers project and I'm really looking forward to helping make that happen next year as part of the Cultural Olympiad. I'm really excited about working with all the different creative people that are involved with the project and I can't wait to bring the installation to the Southbank Centre. It's going to be really exciting!
