How long have you been dancing for?
Well professionally since 1995 when I studied at the London Studio Centre. I started off as a dancer then moved into choreography.
Why do you love to dance?
I started off just enjoying dancing and it changed. I enjoy exploring the possibilities of experiences through the body.
You set up h2dance in 1999, how did it start?
I met Hanna (h2dance co-artistic director) in 1998. She was working on a show and asked if I wanted to be in it. We discovered we were interested in the same types of things and decided to come together to form a company.
Your company has been really successful and you
have performed across the world. Have there been any highlights?
For me every show is a highlight! But really, the fact that Hanna and I have continued to work together and have seen the company get bigger is the most exciting thing.
What are you working on at the moment?
Our current show is called Say Something. It features four dancers and a choir, the audience get the chance to be on stage too. We are looking at the relationships between them and the way they express themselves. We performed it at The Place dance centre in February and will be performing it in Sweden before starting a UK tour in the Autumn.
So how have you found working with the young people from Do Your Own Thing?
I have really enjoyed it. It’s been really exciting and a new experience. In my work I am really interested in seeing how people express themselves naturally and Do Your Own Thing has been a great way to develop this. |
